He was 5' 7 1/2" tall, weighed 125 lbs, chest 33-34 1/2", complexion fresh, brown eyes, dark brown hair, Church of England with a mole between the shoulder blades. He was declared fit but his chest was 1" below the minimum requirement but it was stated that he should develop into an efficient soldier. The reason he only lasted five days was not given, but we wonder if he had lied about his age
