  • served in the Army as a Despatch Rider during WW2. Harold Eric Wilkinson told us that he was a 'bit of lad'. When his unit was en-route he would go missing, only to reappear at the destination. Once, in Holland he was asked to take a message under cover of darkness. Early next morning he reappeared to the cry of "we never expected to see you again", "why?" "because you have been through the enemy lines twice", "I thought there were a lot of flashes and bangs".
