At age 23 (1858), this courageous young woman left England without any other family members, sailed to America, then joined a wagon train that traveled by ox-drawn wagons across America's Great Plains. She answered the call to gather to Zion in the territory of Utah, in North America. It is recorded that she walked most of the way, despite the slight limp from having scarlet fever as a child! For four years, she would live a continent away from any immediate family members. It wasn't until 1862 that Caroline's 56 year-old mother and 19 year-old younger brother (Mary Ann Barnard Coolbear and David Coolbear, respectively) would cross the plains in the John Murdock wagon train of 65 wagons and 700 people.
